Why Living Leaf?
Just like humans, trees are living, breathing organisms with their own life cycle, modes of communication, and life requirements.
You can see this life in the smallest of leaves - whose growth provides humans with the precious oxygen that we breath.
At Living Leaf we celebrate and honor the diversity in our trees, the beauty they provide to the landscape and the support they provide to our universe.

Caleb Heimlich
Certified Arborist with 20+ years of
experience in the arboricultural industry
in Western North Carolina
Caleb was born in the rich bottom lands of the Ohio River Valley, navigating the family farm using giant northern red oak and burr oaks as markers before he could tell the two apart.
He went on to earn a degree in creative writing, which greatly aided him later in life being frequently posed the question:
“What exactly is an arborist?"
Later, he held a variety of jobs including substitute teacher, bartender, and librarian. All trades which essentially boil down to helping people find what they believe will be helpful to them.
It was when he found climbing that he knew he had found a life calling. Spending weekends as a rock climbing guide after hours at the library he gradually found a way to blend his passion for trees, climbing, and education all at once.
He moved to WNC in 2007 to become an arborist and fell in love with some of the oldest mountain ranges in the world. He is still excited to be learning more and more about the wonderful ecosystem we live in and is happy to share.
